The SMFA Library just launched an awesome database in December called SubjectsPlus. Although still in beta, it already has some great resources in it. Particularly in the realm of Film:
Here you will find links to all things related to film such as catalogs, technical guides, writings, local venues for screenings, and particularly helpful-- websites where you can access great films.

Some not mentioned on SubjectsPlus:
MUBI - stream classic and independent films for a small monthly fee
VIMEO - a video community where you can find up and coming artists as well as upload your own work
Archive.org: Prelinger Archive - an awesome archive of old educational and industrial films, also just try searching around in the Archive.org moving image category for old home movies, independent films, and more.
