This week, I watched Japanese film, “13 Assassins” which deleted by
Takashi Miike. “13 Assassins” is typical Japanese Samurai drama and the story
is very simple. It is about 13 assassins come together for a suicide mission to
kill a sadistic evil lord. The film is actually a remake of Eiichi Kudo’s 1963
black and white Japanese film of the same name “Jusannin no Sikaku”.
Takashi Miike is
very energetic film director and has directed more than 70 films. He makes wide
range of films from violent and bizarre to family drama and kids. He defiantly has
his own style that is extreme violence and graphically grotesque and this movie
is full of those.
Film is about 141minutes, however I did not feel the movie was that much
long because of a lot of action sequence especially last 50 minutes are only
action and action. What I like about this film is that all scenes are gloomy
and dark tone, which reminds me “The dark Knight”. What I dislike about this
movie is there are some unnecessary grotesque scenes and not depict well about
figure of 13 assassins.
